In 2013, Guala Closures Group will offset the CO2 emissions generated by the production of 1 billion wine screwcaps. This will be achieved through a reforestation project in India, developped by the French NGO Up2green Reforestation in partnership with the local organization Green Leaf Energy.

Guala Closures Group will offset the CO2eq emissions generated by the production of 1 billion wine screwcaps through a reforestation project in India, assessed by Ecocert Environnement.

The project is based in the district of Bihar in the North East of India.

Implemented and coordinated by Green Leaf Energy Private Limited and Association Up2green - and monitored by Ecocert Environnement, this Indian project encompasses the three dimensions of sustainability:

1) environmental: contributes to increasing the forest cover and creating a new ecosystem;

2) social: anchors local communities – over 3200 people - in their areas through work, education (schoolchildren's involvement) and preservation of biodiversity and forestry benefits.

3) economic: provides the basis for the development of agrofood activities designed to bring peasant communities out of poverty.

To offset the 20,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, corresponding to the production of 1 billion wine screwcaps, 80,000 trees will be planted in 2013.
